Scarborough’s
popularity was borne out of its sheer beauty and distance
from the city. For this reason locals have campaigned for
decades against bright outside lights and noise so that in
the evenings, one can lie back and enjoy the stars and the
endless universe and during the weekends appreciate the silence
and hear the waves crash upon the rocks.
When the Ikantanda was washed onto the rocks during a violent
winter storm in September 2001, the greater public became
aware of this eclectic village teetering on the edge of the
African continent and the beauty of the coastline and settings.
