Scratch
Patch at the Mineral World in Simon's Town is a deliciously
enjoyable experience for children of all ages. Located on
False Bay just outside Simon's Town, it offers people the
opportunity to get creative and go crazy in a cool, secure
environment.
Imhoff’s
Gift This has been mentioned earlier in the Other
Villages sections but for children it is a must – that’s
if the beach is not good. There is a playground for the smaller
children, set in the garden where one can have tea and a chat.
For children there is horse riding, camel rides and donkey
rides. There is a snake park for those interested in seeing
really dangerous things and there is space. The restaurants
are very tolerant of children and have created enough space
and distractions to allow mum and dad to have a meal in peace.
Noordhoek
Farm Village Again there is a playground within watching
distance of the restaurants to give parents peace to eat and
drink. Often there is music played at the bandstand while
kids frolic among the rocks, or the playground.
Boulders
Beach An absolute must for children as the penguins
are so cute (to watch) and appealing (to see), but children
must remember they are wild birds and do not take kindly to
interference.
Boat
rides Spirit of Just Nuisance in Simon’s Town
offers trips around the harbour. Some time ago I remember
hiring a paddle boat and having an hilarious time navigating
around the pier and the boats. I would advise parents to keep
an eye on children in this instance.
Noordhoek
Garden Emporium Touch farm.
Lagoon
and Boardwalk, Scarborough Lots of fun. Space. Water.
No shade so take an umbrella and be considerate of nesting
birds.
Super
Tubes Muizenberg Hilarious adventure but not sure
whether this would be advisable for young children.
Putt
putt Muizenberg For those too young for the golf
course, or who need to catch up on some putting practice,
here’s your chance to go mad.
Tidal
Pools St. James, Buffels Bay Always a good option
if the children are restless. However when the wind blows,
be more discerning where you go. There are tidal pools all
around the Peninsula; Muizenburg , St.James, Fish Hoek, Simon’s
Town, Cape Point Reserve (most well known at Buffels Bay),
Soet Water, and Kommetjie. There is no tidal pool in Scarborough,
but we do have natural ones when the tide is low and of course,
there is the lagoon where the water tends to be warmer.
