May
to August [winter] - is a wonderful time to experience
this Scarborough. You can watch the cold fronts sweep across
the Atlantic bringing the legendary Cape storms accompanied
by the northwest galesWatching these storms is exhilarating
as nature demonstrates her power. Between the winter storms
the days are balmy, warm and mild – a superb time to
enjoy the empty beach to yourself. Winter is a particularly
beautiful time in the Scarborough as the vegetation regains
its luxuriance and water falls proliferate the mountains,
finally making their way into the Schuster’s lagoon
and out to sea.
September
to February [summer] - the weather is hot and dry.
The days are long, giving 14 hours of light. Surfing conditions,
depending on the wind, are favourable. The prevailing summer
wind, locally referred to as The Cape Doctor, can sometimes
reach gale force at which time one should consider going wine
tasting. Usually when the wind blows the water becomes very
clear, ice cold and perfect for diving. Summer temperatures
are relatively comfortable with the average maximum around
26° C.
March
to May is a very pleasant mild season for the reason
that there is very little wind at all.
From August to November the spring flowers are in full display
and the bay is visited by numerous whales. Schuster’s
Bay is a nursery for Southern Right Whales.
Please note The months we have listed here
are merely guidelines. Always cater for all weather when visiting
due to its unpredictability.
