Simon’s Town is a charming naval town, steeped
in history and tradition and was named after the governor
of the Cape Colony, Simon van der Stel upon whose recommendation
the Dutch East India Company used the Bay for winter anchorage.
One of the best ways to get a feel for the maritime heritage
of the town is to take a cruise on the Spirit of Just Nuisance
and get up close to the SA Navy’s ships and submarines
while soaking up the sights of this picturesque coastal town.
Scenic boat trips to Cape Point, Seal Island or just around
the harbour are available.
Alternatively you could get really adventurous and hire a
sea kayak and, together with expert guides, discover the coastline
and the penguin colony for yourself.
If
kayaking is not your scene, then
take a stroll along the beach or explore the many shops and
cafes along the road. For a cup of delicious coffee, homemade
carrot cake and harbour views, Mediterraneo comes highly recommended.
